Course Descriptions

Art Explorations (Grades 1-5)

1-2 Elementary school students develop a basic working knowledge of drawing and painting materials in school, as well as an introduction to the Elements and Principles of Art. This section of Art Explorations is designed to develop that knowledge in the very young artist. This 6 or 8 week class, with a slightly shorter 75 minute session, was developed with the blossoming artist in mind. Students will experiment with a variety of 2-D and 3-D mediums and focus is on process, not product.

2-4 This session of Art Explorations is designed to develop and build on prior knowledge and allow the young artist to more deeply delve into their creativity. This 10 week course features 90 minute sessions developed to engage and stimulate creativity in young artists. Students will work with a variety of 2-D and 3-D mediums and will be challenged to build confidence and skill with their artwork, as well as experiment and develop new experiences in art.

Drawing & Painting (Grade 5-8)

In this 10-week course, students will be encouraged to work on their development and mastery of skills while working in 2-D. Multiple drawing mediums will be explored including graphite, ink, pastels, and color pencil. Watercolor and acrylic paint will be introduced as a medium, as well. Students will work on a variety of surfaces, discovering the world beyond the humble sheet of paper!

Sculpture (Grade 5-8)

In this 8-week course, students will step beyond the usual materials and begin working and exploring with multiple 3-D mediums. Wire, plaster, metal, papier mache, and recycled materials will be used to create a variety of small to medium sized sculptures. Introduction to the safe use of many tools is included in this course. With the exception of personal safety equipment, all materials will be provided. ***Students should bring safety glasses and work gloves to class each week. See instructor for more information.
